Regenerative Turbine Pumps

Regenerative Turbine pumps utilize an impeller with many buckets or vanes at the periphery. Unlike a centrifugal pump, where the fluid is thrown from the center to the outer edge of the impeller, in a regenerative turbine pump, the fluid enters and exits the pump tangentially, and is moved around the outer edge of the impeller, gaining velocity as it moves. These pumps are not positive displacement, but display similar performance curves to PD pumps with relatively low-flow and high head characteristics. They provide the simplicity of a centrifugal design, but produce higher head performance a low flow rates. A regenerative turbine pump has greater resistance to damage from cavitation in low NPSH conditions than a centrifugal pump, and is generally quieter and less expensive than positive displacement pumps covering the same performance range. Wide temperature ranges can be handled with this design. Regenerative turbine pumps can pump fluids more viscous than water, but are limited by horsepower considerations when doing so. Centrifugal Pumps

A centrifugal pump produces flow through centrifugal force. Fluid is drawn into the eye of an impeller and increases in velocity as it moves to the outer edge of the impeller. Centrifgugal pumps are ideal for fluids under 50 centipoise in viscosity, and are generally suited for higher flow rates and lower differential pressures (head). While flow control is possible with a centrifugal pump, the curve is not linear, and does not change linearly with speed changes. Centrifugal pumps can be designed to handle a wide temperature range, as there are no close-tolerances in the design.  Speck centrifugal pumps are an economical option for many OEM applications handling thin fluids.

Chemical Side Channel Pumps

A side-channel pump is a multi-stage pump, similar in function to a regenerative turbine pump, only the fluid flow is moved through a 'P' shaped channel outside the tips of the impeller vanes. Side-Channel pumps are often provided for industrial applications, and are the largest fluid pumps offered by Speck. These can handle a wide range of temperatures and are often provided with a low NPSH initial stage to handle applications with low inlet pressure conditions.

Hot Oil Pumps

Speck Pump offers a range of centrifugal and regenerative turbine pumps specifically suited for extreme temperature applications, such as pumping heat transfer fluids at temperatures up to 600 deg F. The basic designs are similar to our standard pumps, only the materials of construction and a few other features have been modified to handle the increased temperature ranges.
